Tempest
Florida lives between two skies, one blazing with relentless sun and the other dark with gathering storms. From the Panhandle to the Keys, brilliant rays shimmer over calm waters even as tornadoes carve across open land, lightning fractures the horizon, waterspouts spiral from the coast, and hurricanes surge inland with roaring force. This constant clash of brightness and fury defines life across the state, demanding infrastructure that is as adaptable as the environment itself. Civil engineers shape communities to endure both extremes, creating systems that stand firm against violent storms and scorching heat alike. This is a philosophy that reflects a commitment to safety, durability, and long-term performance in a climate characterized by contrast. Guided by the same principles of resilience, adaptability, and innovation, this year’s team developed Tempest, a canoe that embodies Florida’s dual character: one side radiant and calm, the other fierce and unyielding, united in strength.
